Tiny Smart Home

Tiny House will be a showcase unit for relevant research ongoing at UCSC for submission to a state-wide competition in October 2016. It will have a mixed DC and AC power system for maximum electrical energy efficiency. EE and CE senior design students will work in subgroups to design and implement the different subsystems and components necessary; in order to accomplish this, certain aspects must be accounted for across groups.

Joint Deliverables:

• Understanding of the energy needs of the resident; what are the DC power requirements? What are the AC power requirements? Will we be mostly able to provide power through PV and batteries or will we be drawing from mains most/half/none of the time?
• These needs, as well as those necessary to run the subsystems will determine the voltage of the DC bus. What should this be in order to maximize energy efficiency?
